Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Profesor titular) (with accreditation as a Full Professor -catedrático- since 2024) in the Department of Spanish and Latin American Literature at the University of Salamanca, creator of the Exocanon project, founder of the TePPeL research group, deputy director of the IEMYRhd [Research Institute for Medieval, Renassaince, and Digital Humanities] and director of the Master in Spanish and Latin American Literature, Literary Theory and Comparative Literature. He has been an elected member of bodies such as the University Senate of the University of Salamanca and the Staff Committee of the Teaching and Research Personnel [Comité de Empresa de PDI Laboral].
He collaborates with master’s programs and degrees from various national and international institutions. He holds a PhD from the University of Salamanca, where he was recognized with the Extraordinary Award for his doctorate. After that, he worked at the University of Valladolid and Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as serving as adjunct professor and collaborator at the UOC and other institutions.
Later, he joined the University of Salamanca as lecturer. His research focuses on Digital Literature, Transmedia Narrative, and Digital Humanities. His research primarily explores new media and their relationship with culture and society, including transmedia narratives, video games, and other formats. He is the founder of the journal Caracteres. Estudios culturales y críticos de la esfera digital [Caracteres. Cultural and critical studies of the digital sphere] and a member of editorial boards for several academic journals and research book series with publishers such as Delirio or Iberoamericana-Vervuert.
He has over twenty years of experience in journalism, including traditional media such as the newspaper Última Hora, radio broadcaster COPE, and others. During this time, he has also worked as a theater critic and contributor to specialized magazines, including extensive experience in the video game industry. He has collaborated with both local and national media and has been consulted as an expert for reports and news in national and international media. As a guest lecturer, he has been invited by institutions across Europe, America and Africa (including France, Switzerland, Denmark, the United States, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Sweden, Morocco, and others.) Publications
As a literary author, he has published and premiered various theatrical works, including both original texts and multiple dramaturgies (especially by French authors). As a researcher, he has published books such as Escrituras para el siglo XXI. Literatura y blogosfera (2014), as well as the updated, revised, and expanded 2024 edition, Mi avatar no me comprende. Cartografías de la suplantación y el simulacro (2016), No es web para críticas. El crítico cultural ante los medios digitales y la búsqueda de su espacio en la red (2018), Y eso es algo terrible. Crónica de un poema viral (2019), and Cardo de nodo. Cartografía fragmentaria de la escritura en red (2020). Additionally, he is co-author, along with Fernando R. de la Flor, of El gabinete de Fausto. “Teatros” de la escritura y la lectura a un lado y otro de la esfera digital (2014).
He has coordinated volumes such as Best Served Cold: Studies on Revenge (2010), Lectoescritura digital (2019), Poesía en red y ciberpoesía (2019), Voces e identidades exocanónicas (1880–1920). Recuperando (auto)narrativas femeninas de los márgenes (2020), Archivos del Holocausto: autonarrativas de mujeres (2021), and Escrituras hispánicas desde el exocanon (2022), as well as multiple dossiers and special issues in academic journals. Research
He has served as co-PI in projects such as “New Approaches to Transmedia and Language Pedagogy“, funded by the OWRI and the Arts & Humanities Research Council, in the United Kingdom, and as PI in projects like as “Exocanónicos: Márgenes y Descentramiento en la Literatura en Español del Siglo XXI,” funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He has also participated in national and international projects under multiple competitive funding calls.
As a researcher in pedagogical innovation, in addition to leading several projects and directing research and practice-based pedagogical publications such as Otra Onda (2022) or El videojuego como recurso pedagógico (2022), published by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. He has also worked on the project ELElab with the Department of Spanish Language at USAL, creating printed and digital teaching materials, including a MOOC with a Spanish-language teaching audiovisual series. This project emerged from the Campus of International Excellence and its collaboration with the Chair of Advanced Spanish Studies and International Courses at the University of Salamanca.
In addition to teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) in academies and centers both inside and outside Spain, he has served as a professor and coordinator in teaching projects funded by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in collaboration with the Premysa Foundation and other institutional partnerships.
Career
He has been a university professor at institutions such as the University of Valladolid, Menéndez Pelayo International University, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Stockholm University, among others, and has also been a collaborating professor in multiple international and national programs. He is a member of various international research networks and groups (such as the International Research and Learning Network “Memoria y Narración“, and collaborates with research groups such as E-LECTRA, EPERFLIT, iLAC, and LECRIRED among others, both at the University of Salamanca and at other institutions, as a specialist in digital media and digital humanities.
He has served as a scientific reviewer for national and international competitive funding calls, such as projects by CONICYT and AEI, as well as in postdoctoral programs (e.g., Ramón y Cajal). He has also participated in various types of peer review processes for articles and books, including work for top-decile journals and publishers in their respective academic ranking systems.
