Assistant / Associate Professor of Gender Studies. Begins Fall 2016. The Gender Studies Program at Skidmore College seeks a candidate for a tenure-track position in Gender Studies beginning Fall 2016 at the assistant or associate professor level. A highly selective, liberal arts college located in Saratoga Springs, New York with a student population of 2,400, 21% of whom are students of color, Skidmore College is committed to fostering an environment in which faculty, staff and students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive. The position entails teaching core courses in Gender Studies (Introduction to Gender Studies, Feminist Theory and Methods, Senior Seminar in Gender Studies) as well as electives in Gender Studies (particularly in the area of sexuality studies and/or queer theory). In addition, faculty are expected to contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary first-year seminar program and to actively engage in student advising and mentoring. The normal teaching load is 5 courses per year. The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, experience with and dedication to working with a diverse body of students, and demonstrated potential for leadership within the Gender Studies program and the Skidmore College community. The College offers support for faculty development including pre-tenure sabbaticals and internal research grants.
