Lines of research

  • Study of the epidemiological situation of zoonotic diseases.
  • Creation of infection risk maps by means of ecological niche modelling of vector-borne diseases.
  • Search for molecules for the diagnosis and control of parasitic diseases in animals and humans.
  • Comprehensive study of cardiopulmonary and subcutaneous dirofilariosis in animals and humans (D. immitis and D. repens): epidemiology, vectors, parasite/host relationship, immunopathology (proteomics and immunomics), diagnosis, treatment and control.
  • Role of the endosymbiont bacterium Wolbachia sp. in dirofilariosis and other zoonotic and tropical diseases.
  • Study of vectors transmitting dirofilariasis and leishmaniasis in Spain.
  • Angiostrongylosis: epidemiology, diagnosis and control. Link of interest
  • Avian ascarids: parasite/host relationship, epidemiology, immunology and diagnosis.
  • Porcine ascariosis: epidemiology, diagnosis in extensive pig farms and monitoring of environmental variables that influence the presence of the parasite indirectly and then compare them between farms with infected and healthy pigs in order to control this type of disease or similar diseases with the same symptoms in intensive or extensive pigs.
  • Didactics, innovation and scientific and educational dissemination in parasitology and microbiology, and other branches.
