Why to go to Mondego Footbridges

The delightful view of Serra da Estrella

Last spring I had the pleasant opportunity to go on a day trip to Mondego Footbridges. It is an adapted path with wooden platform that goes into the jaws of a Serra de la Estrella. It is an easy hike without much descent, with magnificent views and close to Salamanca. If after touring all the hiking trails in the province, you wonder what other alternatives are left, Mondego Footbridges is your choice. Nevertheless, it is worth having traveled Salmanca routes of the Iron Way, the Batuecas, Water Roads, Camino de las Raíces and Barca Trail. Mondego Footbridges are 20 minutes from Guarda, so after the 12km of hike you can taste the local cuisine and take a good cheese back.

My personal experience

In my case, I went with a group of friends on the day trip organized by local leisure entertainment company specialised in Erssmus students. The package of the day included transport, tourist guide in Guarda and a 100% assured good mood. We met young people from many countries and we learned the route by heart to return on our own. Definitely for both locals and outsiders I recommend the route. Even if you’re not a hiker, breathing fresh air and breaking with the routine is essential. And even more if you study in Salamanca!
