Gail the snail spent his summer holidays in a different place every year. As he carried his house on his back, he didn’t have to book a hotel. One year, he received a letter from a snail friend who lived in Conil, a city in Cádiz province, telling him to go there for the summer. One day, Gail arrived in Conil. That day his friend was travelling, so Gail had to make himself comfortable in the town.
Gail the snail went to the beach. There were lots of people there. Children were running around, playing ball games and almost stepped on him. Frightened, Gail the snail left the beach and went to the town, to the area where there were many bars and cafés, but they were all closed because they opened at eleven o’clock at night and it was still early. At that hour, everything was quiet in that area. The snail Gail breathed a sigh of relief: “At last I can rest easy”.
At eight o’clock in the evening, the snail Gail crawled into his shell and began to sleep. But at eleven o’clock at night, the bars opened their doors. Music started to play and people started talking, singing, laughing. The noise was deafening. The snail Gail woke up frightened.
-What’s going on here? I’m going crazy. This Conil place is going to kill me.
And when, in desperation, Gail the snail was leaving Conil, his friend returned. Seeing him sad, he asked him what was wrong. The snail explained that he could not be calm on the beach and that, when he had found a quiet place, it had burst into noise. Gail’s friend explained to him what he should do.
-In the morning you have to be in the bar area. At that time they are all closed, there are few people and you can be quiet. In the evening, you have to go to the beach. At that time there is no one around and you can rest.
Gail the snail followed his friend’s advice. From that day on, he was able to rest day and night. And now, every year, Gail the snail spent the summer in Conil. And that was the end of the story of Gail the snail.
