DEADLINE EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 22ND

We are inviting proposals for presentations at the first annual Gender & Women’s Studies Graduate Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Gender & Women’s Studies Graduate Conference is an annual conference run by graduate students, for graduate students. This is your chance to get your feet wet in the world of conferences and network with fellow graduate students, whether it’s your first conference or not!

The theme this year is “Ordinary Space, Extraordinary Living.” Do spaces contribute to our understanding of gender in daily life? What shapes an extraordinary life? Is there such a thing as an everyday? How does space contribute to gender? How do we perform gender in extraordinary ways? How does gender contribute to our changed understanding of space over time? How is gender represented and regulated in public spaces, like social media sites?

Specific sub-themes this includes could be but are not limited to:

1. Environmentalism and space
2. Intellectual and physical sustenance
3. Social activism and justice
4. Rhetorics and performances of belonging
5. Relations and relationships
6. Intersectionality and space
7. Gender and colonial spaces
8. Gender, work and space
9. Landscape and gender
10. Gender, migration, and displaced peoples
11. Gendered representations and space in literature, folklore, and graphic novels
12. Gender and forbidden spaces
13. Transgressions of space and gender
14. Gender and reclaiming space
15. Gender, ritual and extraordinary space

To submit a proposal, please email a 200 word abstract and tentative title in PDF format along with your full name, standing in school, and department to:

by December 22nd, 2016.
