CFP: “On the Politics of Ugliness”.

Resultado de imagen de ugliness TRANSCall for Papers

On the Politics of Ugliness, forthcoming from Palgrave Macmillan, is looking for pieces to complement our existing chapters. On the Politics of Ugliness looks at ugliness as a socio-political category that operates in relation to ableism, racism, sexism, settler colonialism, fatphobia, heterosexism, transphobia, ageism, and health imperatives as a form of visual injustice. “Ugliness” is understood to be many things but it operates to justify exclusion, with lethal effects for embodied experiences, relations, and intimacy. We are looking for pieces that directly take up ugliness in relation to the following topics/from the perspective of the following fields:

- the “ugly laws” of late 19th and early 20th century
- critical disability studies, feminist disability studies, or crip studies perspectives on any aspect of “ugliness”
- ugliness and its relation to transphobia and/or transmisogyny

If you are interested in contributing, please send us a short abstract (150 words) on what you intend to explore by May 25th. The complete chapter deadline will be early July, 2017. Please send abstracts to Sara Rodrigues (sararod[at]yorku[dot]ca) and Ela Przybylo (eprzyby1[at]asu[dot]edu).
