Job Posting: Assistant or Associate Professor in Gender and Sexuality Studies at Northwestern University.

Assistant or Associate Professor in Gender and Sexuality Studies

The Gender and Sexuality Studies Program at Northwestern University invites applications to fill a tenure-track position in feminist studies at the rank of assistant professor or tenured associate professor, to begin September 1, 2016. Applicants at the assistant level must possess or supply evidence that all requirements for the degree will be completed by August 1, 2016.

We seek a scholar with teaching and research interests in African-American, black diasporic, or non-western feminisms, particularly as they intersect with analyses of gender and sexuality. The program is especially interested in scholars whose work engages feminist thought broadly defined, with emphasis on transnational feminisms; colonial, decolonial, and postcolonial thought; critical race studies; or other relevant bodies of theory. We are particularly interested in applicants trained in Feminist, Women’s, and Gender Studies, African American Studies, Anthropology, or History, although we welcome applications from those trained in other fields in the humanities and qualitative social sciences that complement existing strengths among the program’s core faculty. The position will be a joint appointment with a department within the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to maintaining an active research agenda, the successful applicant should demonstrate excellence in teaching and a willingness to advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students. The applicant should be prepared to teach core undergraduate courses, including a gateway lecture course that introduces students to key feminist texts and surveys feminist histories, broadly defined; assist in mentoring senior thesis writers; teach graduate seminars; and, encourage graduate students from various disciplines to pursue coursework in the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program.

The Gender and Sexuality Studies Program houses a robust undergraduate major and minor, and offers a graduate certificate. The program features a thriving interdisciplinary culture that values interconnections among feminist studies, gender studies, and sexuality studies.
